Cast Iron Drain Repaired with ABS and New Cleanouts Added

Cast iron drain lines have a lifespan - and when they go, they usually go underground where you can't see the damage until it's already causing problems. Slow drains, gurgling sounds, and backups are often the first signs something is wrong below the surface.

Here's what we were working with: a failing cast iron drain that needed to come out. Cast iron is durable stuff, but it corrodes from the inside out over time. We excavated down to the problem, cut out the damaged section, and replaced it with ABS pipe. ABS is the right call here - it's smooth on the inside, resistant to corrosion, and built to last.

We also added cleanouts as part of this repair. Two cleanout caps are now accessible right at grade level. That matters because if there's ever a clog or a backup down the road, a plumber can get in fast without digging up the yard again. It's a small detail that saves a lot of time and money later.

This is the kind of work that doesn't look flashy once it's buried back under the ground - but it's the difference between a drain system that works reliably for decades and one that gives you headaches every few years. Doing it right the first time is always worth it.
